Looking for something different for when you visit Bangkok? How about an afternoon riding a bicycle through parts of the city you didn’t know existed? It’s fun and interesting and not as scary as it might sound (if you’ve been to Bangkok and seen the traffic then you know what I mean).
Co Van Kessel has been running bicycle tours of Bangkok for many years and the organisation of the tour shows it. Departing from a hotel in Chinatown, a typical tour departs down some of the narrow and interesting lanes of Bangkok’s Chinatown. After that adrenalin rush things calm down a little as the tour heads for some green parts of Bangkok where you are unlikely to see another tourist.
Just when you think maybe you’ve had enough of pushing the pedals, the tour arrives back at the river for a late afternoon rush in a long-tail boat through the city’s klongs (canals) before one last burst on the bike back to the starting point.
Next time you’re in Bangkok and have had enough of the tourist traps, go-go bars and temples, try a bicycle tour. You won’t regret it.
You can find a Google Earth map overlay here. If you have Google Earth installed, double click the downloaded file to see the path of one of the bicycle tours.
