The nearest two towns to Bar Point are Brooklyn and Spencer. Brooklyn is our normal destination. Well, that’s where the car is parked. And where the train station is located. But Spencer, upriver, is a destination for convenience. And a good burger.
The pelicans are in residence today. Parked atop any of the many poles in the river. A good place to checkout the food supply. Quick a safe place too - not many predators could attack at this angle.
Much of the Hawkesbury along this stretch have mangroves along the shore. They thrive in the brackish water and provide a habitat for fish nurseries as well as acting as a sediment trap.
At Spencer we can just tie up to the pontoon that belongs to the local store. Can’t get much easier than that. On the way back to Bar Point I take this image to try to convey just how steep the embankment is along this part of the river. Did I succeed?
